Show Review: The Walkmen @ the John Anson Ford Theatre

The Walkmen, having been around for over 10 years now, are practically senior citizens in indie rock terms, although they really should be thought of as elder statesmen. Or maybe just middle aged. They have definitely grown and progressed audibly over that period of time, their music becoming a little less angry and a bit more lovey as they changed their personal status from single, young men to married fathers. The edge is still there, a reminder that even the happy ones still feel the sting of disappointment from time to time.

Van She are yet another stellar outfit in a long line of Australians who have the magic touch when it comes to producing and creating feel-good synthpop. The Vaccines – “Bad Mood”
The Fonda Theatre got a good and heavy dose of rock and roll last Wednesday night as Band of Skulls lit up the stage with Io Echo and Dreamers Dose. The British trio is no stranger to LA, having mixed their debut album here in 2009, but they came to town to rile up a devoted audience in support of their newest release, Sweet Sour.
Tanlines – “All of Me”
Los Angeles trio Wildcat! Wildcat! may have only gotten together last year, but the three have known each other far longer than that. Jesse Taylor, Michael Wilson and Jesse Carmichael played together in various bands over the years and finally became their own unit. Jesse and Michael swap vocals over a sexy indie groove, creating sweet melodies and some serious harmonies over a synthy rock base. Moheak Radio dived in a little deeper with the guys to find out what’s coming up.
