It has been seventeen years since Cat Power’s (Chan Marshall) debut album Dear Sir (1995) and over half a decade since her critically acclaimed album The Greatest (2006) was released.  Six years later new music from the Atlanta native has finally surfaced.  The new song “Ruin” is the single from her ninth studio album Sun.  The song seduces listeners with a choppy mix of piano riffs and drumming.  ”Ruin” is set to be released later this year 2012.

A Little Peek of The xx – “As I Am”

2:10 am in On Tour, Photos & Videos, Top Stories, Upcoming Releases by dyoon

First of all, we’d like to say thank you to the fan goer who recorded a live upcoming song of The xx at the Battersea Art Centre. It wasn’t for you, this would never had happened. The xx introduced “As I Am” in concert, and do we love it. From the familiar simple guitar melody, backed up by irregular beats from Jamie xx, the tune is a keeper. It is strange lyrically, usually because we’re use to the subtle sexual infatuation from before, but a change is good. Check out the video below!

New Album Announcement from Animal Collective

1:09 am in Top Stories, Upcoming Releases by dyoon

There’s no better way to announce a new album than making an eerie, self-reflective video with little clues of what should be expected. Finally, Animal Collective’s follow up album, entitled Centipede Hz, is to be released in September on Domino. Pre-oders of a 7″ b/w vinyl are already available, with “Honeycomb” and “Gotham” featured on each side.  It’s been years since the band collectively created a new collection, so it’s safe to say that this should be exciting. The band’s website currently shares the video, stretched from corner to corner. You can pre-order the 7″ above, as well as “Honeycomb” in the player.

The Wombats at The El Rey!

2:36 am in Concert Recap, Moheak Radio and Goldenvoice Presents:, Top Stories by dyoon

Moheak Radio and Goldenvoice were very proud to present The Wombats, alongside Static Jacks and The Neighbourhood, at The El Rey. Where should we start? Both opening bands were universally solid, which is always a plus when the anticipation of the main attraction is on the corner of our minds. And of course, the reason many congregated inside the beautiful theater – The Wombats. Energetic throughout, and never forgetting about their fans, The Wombats hit tracks from old and new. It was almost impossible to not have had fun, with almost everyone with the lyrics on their sleeve waiting to sing. From “My First Wedding” to “Tokyo”, we went down nostalgia lane as The Wombats stole the night.

Moheak Spotlight: Of Monsters and Men

2:26 pm in On Tour, Show Schedule, Top Stories by Jean-Claude

Iceland’s Of Monsters and Men (Photo by Anthony Bacigalupo) have caught the golden train of early success in the United States.  This six piece indie folk group like to be referred to as daydreamers coming all the way from GarðabærIceland. They gained international attention after winning Iceland’s Músíktilraunir (an annual battle of the bands competition) back in 2010.  Members Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir (vocals/guitar), Ragnar “Raggi” Þórhallsson (vocals/guitar), Brynjar Leifsson (guitar), Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson (drums), Árni Guðjónsson (piano/accordian), Kristján Páll Kristjánsson (bass) have been compared to the early sounds of Arcade Fire and Mumford & Sons.  There debut album My Head is an Animal was released April 3, 2012 (Universal Music Group) with singles “Little Talks” and “Dirt Paws”. You can check them out this summer at 91x Fest @ Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, CA on (6/3/12) —and—Outside Lands @ Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, CA (8/10-12/12).
