A Little Peek of The xx – “As I Am”

2:10 am in On Tour, Photos & Videos, Top Stories, Upcoming Releases by dyoon

First of all, we’d like to say thank you to the fan goer who recorded a live upcoming song of The xx at the Battersea Art Centre. It wasn’t for you, this would never had happened. The xx introduced “As I Am” in concert, and do we love it. From the familiar simple guitar melody, backed up by irregular beats from Jamie xx, the tune is a keeper. It is strange lyrically, usually because we’re use to the subtle sexual infatuation from before, but a change is good. Check out the video below!

Upcoming Release: Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros

2:59 pm in On Tour, Photos & Videos, Top Stories, Upcoming Releases by Coco Layne

Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros have ‘unofficially’ announced that their upcoming album will most likely be released on May 29th of this year. This album will be the follow up LP to their well-received debut Up From Below and wasn’t recorded in Alabama or Arkansas.

The band retreated deep into the Louisiana countryside to record their second album– which will incorporate similar messages and similar themes as Up From Below. According to an interview, frontman Alex Ebert explains that the band has been approaching the writing process of their new album from a different perspective by building on any idea a member might conjure up.

A couple of tracks have already been on rotation on the interweb including ‘Fire + Water’, a song singer Jade Castrinos came up with. A track titled ‘If You Wanna’ exudes an unshackled exuberance and is  essentially “a group sing-along meant for the child in everyone,” says Ebert.

Catch Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros touring around the US this March. Check out a perfomance of Fire + Water and their dates below.

FYFestival, 2 Days, … FY!

5:40 am in On Tour, Photos & Videos, Top Stories by dyoon

FYF 2010(Caesar Sebastian Photography)

FYF, shortened for F*ck Yeah Festival, has a pretty awesome reputation of surprising fans ever year, collecting a huge variety of bands, DJs, and anything inbetween. So what should we be expecting for this year’s festival on Sept. 1 & 2? Will the event holding the party for two days be too much? I, like many, think Coachella being held for two separate weeks is controversial and odd, but will doubling the festivities be the same for FYF? My opinion? most definitely not. Considering FYF’s size in comparison, as well as it’s choice in artists, and not to mention one of the best bunch of festival goers I’ve seen, having this festival for two days can be amazing.

When it comes down to it, the long, anticipated wait for the release of the artists performing will be a huge factor. Then again, when does FYF ever disappoint?

Check out FYF’s 2011 festival recap below!

Moheak’s Coachella Spotlight – Neon Indian

4:04 am in On Tour, Photos & Videos, Top Stories by Coco Layne

Back in September Neon Indian released Era Extraña under Palomo’s Static Tongues label; the follow up to 2009′s well-received debut LP Psychic Chasms. If you’re one of the many who are going to be at the impending desert exodus this April and you like to party (which you should), then we’re telling you now that attendance is mandatory for Neon Indian’s set.

Alan Palomo is the main man behind the curtain– texas-raised, son of a Mexican pop star, and most importantly a synth mastermind. Neon Indian produces seemingly effortless, yet subliminally complicated synth patterns while still maintaining an air of goofiness and humor. The sound he creates has been dubbed as chillwave, dream pop, glo-fi, the list goes on; though none of these can entirely describe the dreamy cocktail of eclectic lo-fi samples and synth tones that constitutes Neon Indian. They’ll be touring all over the US this spring as well as Japan, Canada, and Australia. Check out dates and watch (but don’t attempt to understand) below.

Dunes Dunes Dunes

9:56 am in MP3 Streams & Downloads, On Tour, Photos & Videos, Show Schedule, Top Stories by Coco Layne

Dunes sprang from the living room of three band-less roomates back in 2009 as a result of wanting to create “weird pop music”. Members Katelynn Hall (Mika Miko), Stephanie Chan (Finally Punk), and Mark Greshowak (Talbot Tagora) play lo-fi, no-fi garage pop filled with pensive vocals, shimmery guitar, and punky beats. Their latest track, ‘Tied Together’ has a melodious, ethereal sound that floats around in the nebulous pool of goth pop, shared also by Siouxie And The Banshees.

Watch the iPhone video for it below featuring some rope and cameos from members of No Age, Vivian Girls, Abe Vigoda, High Places, Telepathe, Cold Showers, Nodzzz, Bleached, Pangea, Shannon and the Clams, and Devon Williams Band.

Download: Dunes – Tied Together

Catch them playing around California this spring and pick up a 7-inch of ‘Tied Together’ via Teenage Teardrops.
