Moheak’s Coachella Spotlight – SBTRKT

8:26 pm in Coachella, Photos & Videos, Top Stories by dyoon

Like every year, Moheak presents our Coachella Spotlight, headlining who we think is worth seeing this year. This week, SBTRKT was without a doubt a group worth recognizing. With funky basslines, to uncommon beats, along with that oh, so soothing voice of Sampha, I’ll feel bad if you’ve never heard them. Working with artist like Little Dragon, and to remixing Frank Ocean’s “Thinking About You”, SBTRKT is definitely worth catching at Coachella 2012.

Coachella Review: Mount Kimbie

1:35 pm in Coachella by robertagustin

(via )

Mount Kimbie is the future of dubstep. At the first listen of Mount Kimbie’s full length LP, Crooks & Lovers, it sounds nowhere near the rattling, jaw dropping bass beats and wobbling sirens of dubstep artists of today such as Skream and Proxy. But do not let that fool you. Crooks & Lovers is heavily influenced by the heavy bass sound that dubstep enthusiasts embrace today. Bass is a big factor of Crooks & Lovers, but the London based duo, Dominic Maker and Kai Campos, uses the bass in a subtle manner, making sure it doesn’t overshadow the textural and ambient pieces in between. One of the premiere tracks of Crooks & Lovers is entitled “Would Know,” which sets up the entire mood throughout the album. “Would Know” is soothing, yet explosive in power. At one moment, everything seems to be grounded with tracks like “Would Know,” and “Before I Move Off.” Before you realize you’re jumping and dancing like a mad-man to bangers such as “Blind Night Errand,” and “Carbonated.” Finally, when all was said and finished by Maker and Campos, you instantly hit “repeat album” on your mp3 player. You are officially hooked.

Mount Kimbie has released two official videos from their Crooks & Lovers album. You can check them out below. Keep an eye out for them on the opening day of Coachella.

Coachella Lineup Review: Kyle Hall

2:04 am in Coachella by robertagustin

Kyle Hall

(via onethirtybpm)

The young, inspiring and Detroit native, Kyle Hall, will be performing this year, which will bring wide attention in the Sahara Tent. Like many of Hall’s Detroit Techno predecessors (Jeff Mills and the influential Richie Hawtin during the 1990′s), Hall has taken the progressive step forward in keeping the roots of Detroit Techno music. Currently, he is under the independent label Wild Oats (via ), but has released tracks under the infamous London-based record company  hyperdub. These tracks entitled “Kaychunk” and “You Know What I Feel” can also be listened to for your eargasmic pleasure . Hall has also remixed a track by London’s dubstep duo, Darkstar, entitled “Aidy’s Girl Is a Computer.” Check out Hall’s Youtube videos’ , performing at various clubs across the seas. Detroit must be proud.
