Tommy Santee Klaws, named after their charismatic bandleader, has been playing and recording since 2001. The band has released an EP, some singles, and eight albums, most recently Of Light. Their beautiful harmonies and sometimes sparse arrangements can lead to much more dramatic moments, and these combinations are what has kept them favorites in LA’s indie scene and landed them supporting slots with the likes of Mark Eitzel (American Music Club) and Grant Lee Buffalo.

Sweden’s Icona Pop, consisting of the duo Aino Jawo and Carline Hjelt, have been playing around LA thrilling clubs with their dynamic brand of electropop and leaving sweaty dancing masses in their wake.  Moheak Radio’s Blake V caught up with them at the Echo and talked with them about being DJs and making music.

Cold Cave, aka Wesley Eisold, has been bouncing around Los Angeles doing all sorts of performances for the last couple months, but he logged in a big one with a opening slot touring with the super hot Divine Fits. Spending some time away from his New York home to work on new music, the synth pop musician creates on his own with occasional contributions from other artists and always has a band with him for his live shows. Big Scary is an Australian duo (Tom Iansek on vocals and guitar with Jo Syme on percussion and vocals) that can swing from beautiful indie folk to chunky rock and roll all in the course of an EP.  Their harmonies range from gorgeous to whimsical, and sounds that can remind someone of the angular arrangements of Pavement one moment and the melodramatic grandeur of Jeff Buckley the next. They have just released their full length, Vacation, here in the States and spent some time with Moheak Radio to introduce themselves.

Japandroids - “The Nights of Wine and Roses”

Canadian indie rock duo Japandroids are currently on tour in support of their latest release, Celebration Rock. They swung through LA a couple weeks ago where they dropped in on the Fonda. They also called in to Moheak Radio for an interview, huge thanks to the guys for that! In light of their release and subsequent tour (which includes dates in the US, Australia, Japan and more), here’s a great track off Celebration Rock. Check it out!

Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes, the Sydney duo The Presets, met at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and have been making music together ever since. Three albums, multiple ARIA Awards (Australia’s version of the GRAMMY), and several successful world tours later, they have just released Pacifica on Modular Records. The boys dropped by the Moheak Radio studio to talk with DJ Paul V to talk about what they set out to do: make music that they like, that would be fun, and makes people want to dance.

A devoted, sold-out crowd welcomed the temporarily reunited Afghan Whigs to their first show in San Francisco since 1998, when they amicably disbanded, feeling like they had just done as much as they could do. Unlike many breakups, these guys stayed friends, and in interviews over the years, it was evident that the three constants – Greg Dulli, John Curley, and Rick McCollum – shared a lot of love for each other and supported one another in their post Whigs lives.
